With 68000 km of coastline, Europe is strongly connected to the sea; its maritime heritage is woven into our culture, food, and history. The European Maritime Day is celebrated each year on May 20 since 2008.

Events for the EMD In My Country 2024 will take place all over Europe from 1 April until 31 October 2024.

European Maritime Day in My country in a nutshell
The EMD in My Country is the European Commission’s campaign to raise awareness about the importance of the oceans and seas and of our maritime heritage to engage the public.
Your events are the public side of the European Maritime Day, the annual two-day event organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for fisheries and maritime affairs (DG MARE).
The EMD in My Country celebrates a shared sense of belonging and cultural heritage with the sea. The objective is for people to realise that activities at sea (coastal tourism, fishing, sailing, shipping, offshore renewable energy, aquaculture etc.) are key for EU’s citizens and economies.
Hundreds of events are organised every year, bringing together citizens in their local communities.
