Halit FILIZ graduated from Ege University (EU), Faculty of Fisheries in 1997. In pursuit of a further academic career, he completed his MSc degree (2001) and later obtained his PhD degree (2007) at the same university. His academic career started at EU and he worked there as a research assistant between the years 2001 and 2007. After getting his PhD, his dedication and hard work paid off as he was appointed as an assistant professor at the Department of Ichthyology, Faculty of Fisheries, Mugla Sitki Kocman University (MSKU). Over the years, he has made significant contributions to the department, earning recognition and respect from his peers. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was promoted to the position of associate professor in 2011 and later attained the esteemed title of full-time professor in 2016. Dr. Filiz’s passion for education extends beyond the classroom, as he has also served in administrative roles. Since 2020, he is head of the Department of Ichthyology. In recognition of his leadership skills and expertise, he was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty in 2021. Dr. Filiz has been a member of some ministerial/governmental commissions and committees regarding aquatic life since 2015.
Dr. Filiz is interested in the distribution of non-native/invasive fish species; interactions between native and non-native fish species; fish and fisheries biology; fish diversity; and conservation of chondrichthyan fishes. His main interests are fish systematics and distribution – Alien species; and Stakeholder involvement.
