Prof. Dr. İlker Aydın is a Professor at the Faculty of Fisheries, Ege University (Türkiye), specializing in fishing technology, fisheries management, bycatch and discard mitigation, invasive marine species, and the sustainable exploitation of marine resources. His research focuses on fish behaviour, fishing gear selectivity, ecosystem-based fisheries management, and the ecological consequences of biological invasions in the Mediterranean Sea. His work contributes to the development of science-based solutions that improve fisheries sustainability, reduce unwanted catches, and support adaptive management under climate change. Prof. Aydın coordinates several international Erasmus+ projects, leading multidisciplinary partnerships in fisheries innovation, vocational education, circular bioeconomy, and blue growth. He has extensive experience in managing international research collaborations, developing capacity-building initiatives, and fostering knowledge transfer between academia, industry, and policymakers. Through his scientific, managerial, and international activities, he actively promotes sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity conservation, and evidence-based policy development across Europe and the Mediterranean region.
